an Internet jazz samplerAbout The Compilationrec.music.bluenote (rmb) is a Usenet group devoted to the discussion of jazz and blues (rec.music.bluenote.blues) in all forms. In other words, rmb is a group of folks spending much too much time on the internet endlessly asking and answering questions about musicians, labels, history, music theory, whether a certain "pop jazz" saxophonist is the Anti-Christ, and just about anything else related to jazz and blues. We want to make clear from the outset that neither the discussion group nor this cd are in any way related to the label or the jazz club. In fact the group's name derives from the "blue notes" common in jazz and blues. Some of the finest contributions to rmb are made by the many jazz musicians who participate in the discussion. From some discussion on the list, Marc Sabatella suggested that musicians contribute tracks for a sample of music from rmb participants. With the assistance of Randall Kennedy of Warner Bros. Records, Piotr Michalowski, Walter Davis and, most importantly, the contributing musicians, this cd was born. We have brought out this cd as a means of providing exposure for these fine musicians, hoping that it will spawn interest from record labels, club owners and other musicians. For that reason, we have included contact and brief biographical information about each of the contributors.
